Band

You may never get to touch the Master, but you can tickle his creatures.

The band was founded by longtime, childhood friends Kevin Serra and Josh Richards. Having written music together for over five years, they sought to create a musical entity with tangible roots. They auditioned a plethora of vocalists including an entomologist, a lunatic, a single mother and even Matt Armor; of Blazing Haley fame. Josh and Kevin finally settled on their mutual friend Scott Killion, who'd played lead guitar for Slaughterhouse Five in Chicago, prior to his relocation to Santa Barbara, CA. 12 Stories drummer Mike Pearl agreed to lend the band a helping hand, playing drums for their first live show. However, the musical relationship between the band and Pearl proved insoluble as he stayed on as their permanent drummer through their demo recording and debut, seven song LP Lonely Planet.

Scott Killion (Malo)

Vocals, Guitar

Former lead guitarist for the Slaughterhouse Five of Chicago, IL, Scott was a willing and able cadidate to head this band as lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist. With a style falling somewhere between Morrissey and David Bowie, Scott's angst filled, intellectually inspiring lyrics carried beautifully over the tonal qualities of Lot 49. With an background in Enlgish literature, Scott possesed an inexhaustable well from which to dip his quill and a mastery of modern prose.

Kevin Serra

Guitars

Former guitarist of This Ascension, this lead guitarist possessed a style that has been compared to Reg Smithies of the Chameleons, Johnny Marr of the Smiths, Robert Smith of the Cure and Robin Guthrie of the Cocteau Twins. A force to be reckoned with as a songwriter, Kevin provided that sparkle and shine to this band's unique sound. He now lives in NYC and continues to author more music with Lot 49's bassitst Josh Richards, for a project known as Salt. He is also currently spearheading a new music project, entitled Cloud Seeding.

Josh Richards

Bass, Backing Vocals

With a style influenced heavily by the Smiths, the Chameleons and U2, Josh brought the "carpet of bass" sound to this quartet. Preferring a solid, in the pocket, groove flavored, fingered bass style; Josh always sought to provide a foundation for Lot 49's amazing guitarists to truly shine. Collaborating with Serra and Killion, this bassist/songwriter helped shape the sound that was distinctly and uniquely Lot 49.

Mike Pearl

Drums, Backing Vocals

An accomplished drummer and percussionist, Mike pearl came to Lot 49 from 12 Stories, another local Santa Barbara band. With a style in line with Vinnie Colaiuta, Omar Hakim and Carter Beauford, Mike brought the much needed rythm section to Lot 49. Extremely solid and impeccable time with creative and innovative fill and cymbal work, Mike was a indispensible and integral piece of the band's sound. Plus, how can you go wrong with a drummer whose last name is "Pearl".

Justin Wagner

Drums

Justin replaced Mike Pearl in the later days of 1996. Justin possessed a hard hitting, driving, rock style that took Lot 49 in a funkier, more rocking direction. Justin was with the band for the writing of several break out hits, including "Curbside", "Simon Says" and "Velvet Crocodile".
